In ancient China, rival kingdoms grapple for ultimate reign. On a battlefield, a dying king commands his daughter, Princess Fei-Er (Kelly Chen) to take the helm and defend their kingdom with help from general Xue-Hu (Donnie Yen). Fei-Er’s cousin, Wu Ba (Guo Xiao-Dong) also has his eyes on the throne and sends out assassins to kill the princess. A mysterious man named Duan Lan-Quan (Leon Lai) manages to save Fei-Er from the grisly fate and they fall in love. Fei-Er must choose between following her dreams to elope with Duan and submitting to her duty to defend her kingdom.

Synopsis

Matsuda Shota and Aragaki Yui take audiences back to rough-and-tumble high school days in their new film Waruboro. Based on Gets Itaya’s autobiographical novel, this brawling youth film about love, friendship, and fisticuffs is set in the 1980s, and Matsuda Shota and company have the hairstyles to prove it. Rising to fame after Hana Yori Dango, Matsuda took supporting gigs in 2006’s A Cheerful Gang Turns the Earth and A Long Walk, and he gets his first leading film role here as a rebellious juvenile delinquent. Matsuda’s Ko-chan crosses paths with girl-next-door Yamada, played by current it-girl Aragaki Yui who won Best New Performer accolades at the 50th Blue Ribbon Awards for her impressive 2007 trifecta of Waruboro, Koizora, and Koisuru Madori (which incidentally co-starred Matsuda Shota’s brother, Matsuda Ryuhei). Directed by Sumida Yasushi, Waruboro also features up-and-coming heartthrobs Kimura Ryo and Seiji Fukushi from Nodame Cantabile and D-BOYS members Kaji Masaki and Shirota Yu (The Prince of Tennis).

Synopsis

Ji-yeon is a successful lawyer and single mother to a seven-year-old girl. On her daughter’s field day, Ji-yeon competes with other parents in a running race and almost comes in the first place. However, nowhere could she find the girl who’s been watching and rooting for her mother to win. Later that day, Ji-yeon’s receives a phone call from an anonymous man, who tells her he has her daughter in custody and proposes a deal. To see her daughter alive, Ji-yeon needs to prove a convicted murderer not guilty on his second trial, only within a week. Ji-yeon tries to convince herself the murderer should be innocent, but the encounter with the victim’s mother makes her understand what drove crime-to-crime.

Synopsis
