Scout [Kmovie] (Im Chang-Jeong)

In the midst of the political crisis marked by the Gwangju Uprising in 1980, the country was in an absolute craze over a new baseball phenom, Sun Dong Yeol. Known as a ghost pitcher at the time, Sun topped the list of every scouting agent, both nationwide and overseas. Director Kim Hyun Seok (When Romance Meets Destiny) presents Scout, a touching comedy which takes the audience behind the scenes to the world of Korean baseball and reveals intriguing antics surrounding the scouting of real-life legendary baseball pitcher Sun Dong Yeol. Lim Chang Jung (Miracle On 1st Street, Underground Rendezvous) stars as a talent scout who takes on the impossible mission of searching for the most wanted baseball player in the nation. First conceived by director Kim when he read Sun Dong Yeol’s autobiography, Scout also stars Uhm Ji Won (Traces Of Love, Mutt Boy) as Lim’s first love. Lightly demonstrating the strange correlation that exists between politics and sports in our society, Scout also offers its audience the opportunity to witness the beauty of one man’s transformation as he gives up his most prized possession.
Ex-baseball pitcher Ho Chang (Lim Chang Jung) now works as a staff member at a university baseball team. He is given the difficult task of scouting a ghost pitcher named Sun Dong Yeol from a Gwangju high school. While roaming through the city, Ho Chang runs into his first love Sae Young (Uhm Ji Won) who broke up with him seven years ago. Sure enough, Sae Young appears quite uneasy around him and to make matters worse, Gon Tae, a street gangster who fancies Sae Young, is more than eager to get rid of Ho Chang. Suddenly the city of Seoul turns upside down when a rumor sparks that Sun Dong Yeol is being scouted by a rival university. With his reputation hanging by a thread, Ho Chang must look for a way to seal the deal with Sun whom he has yet to find.

Open City [Kmovie] (Son Ye Jin, Kim Myung Min)

Son Ye Jin (A Moment To Remember, April Snow) masters the art of seduction in Open City, an erotic crime thriller penned and directed by Lee Sang Ki in his first feature film. The chameleon actress is enchantingly breathtaking as the sexy, manipulative femme fatale who leads an organized pickpocket ring. The first Korean film to reveal the intricate inner workings of what is considered Korea’s equivalent of the FBI, Open City also offers a riveting first-hand look at the various methods of pickpocketing that will have the audience think twice before leaving the house. Completely smitten by Son’s beauty is Kim Myung Min (Return) who breathes much charisma into his complex role as a criminal investigator. As he finds himself caught in the deadly predicament of falling for his investigation’s prime target, the onscreen chemistry between the two leads explodes to a new high. Tightly coiled with sexual tension throughout the film, Open City shows all the right moves in all the right places.
The leader of an international pickpocket organization, sexy siren Baek Jang Mi (Son Ye Jin) returns to Korea after blowing her cover in Japan. Keeping a low profile by running a small tattoo parlor, she soon organizes a new ring which quickly gains power across the country. Top-notch criminal investigator Jo Dae Young (Kim Myung Min) is called in to handle the massive pickpocket crime that is spreading like wildfire. Besieged by a dark family secret, Dae Young reluctantly takes on the case. A fatal attraction ignites when the detective saves Jang Mi from the hands of her rival ring members. Ensnared by her brazenly sexual advances, Dae Young is shocked when he later learns that she is his investigation’s prime target. With so much riding on the outcome, he trails her right into her tattoo parlor. But once again, he finds himself gambling away his basic instincts in the name of passion.

Heaven Bookstore [Jmovie] (Yuko Takeuchi)

Heaven’s Bookstore (天国の本屋 ‘Tengoku no honya) is a 2004 Japanese film directed by Tetsuo Shinohara about a struggling classical pianist who is sent to heaven to work in a bookstore. It is based on two novels, written by Atsushi Matsuhisa and Wataru Tanaka.
Plot
Kenta (Tetsuji Tamayama), a classical pianist, is fired from his orchestra, and gets drunk in a bar. He wakes up the following morning in what turns out to be a bookstore in heaven. The owner of the bookstore had brought him there, and explains that people live to be 100; people who die before this age go to heaven to live out the rest of their allotted time, before they are reborn on earth.
In heaven he meets Shoko (Yuko Takeuchi), a pianist who he had admired on earth. Together, they start work on a special composition that she had started writing but not finished on earth.
Meanwhile, on earth, Shoko’s niece Natsuko (also played by Yuko Takeuchi) wants to organise a fireworks display that was discontinued twelve years ago. It turns out that Shoko had been engaged to Takimoto (Teruyuki Kagawa), a talented firework maker, but her hearing had been damaged by a firework accident he caused. As a result she stopped playing music, he stopped making fireworks, they split up, and later she died.
Natsuko wants Takimoto to make his special ‘loving fireworks’ for the fireworks display. These are the special fireworks that inspired Shoko to compose her special composition, uncompleted when Takimoto stopped making them. He is vehnemently opposed to making fireworks again.
However, at the end of the firework display ‘loving fireworks’ unexpectedly appear in the sky, set-off by Takimoto. Kenta returns to earth and plays Shoko’s now completed composition to accompany them. Natsuko and Kenta meet. They run off laughing into the dark.
