Nikkan Sports Drama Grand Prix: fans’ stupidity ?



According to Nikkan Sport, via Tokyograph:

The fall 2007 winners of the Nikkan Sports Drama Grand Prix have been announced. A total of 12,540 ballots were cast, resulting in “Yukan Club” taking 4 of the 5 awards.

It beat “Galileo” for Best Drama by 3,652 votes. It also took Best Actor (Jin Akanishi), Best Supporting Actor (Junnosuke Taguchi), and Best Supporting Actress (Yu Kashii), winning each category by more than a thousand votes.

For Best Actress, Miho Kanno (”Hataraki Man”) was #1.

Now, have anyone watched Yukan Club ? If not, see here. I’m not exactly a very strict J-drama critic, but I have to say this drama sucked. It has absolutely no meaning, the script is boring, the acting is horrible, and the actor/actress aren’t even handsome/pretty (maybe except for Jin Akanishi in JE fans’ eyes). This follows the drama type of Hana Kimi from last season, but is much worse. The fact that someone actually chose to ignore all that and voted for the sake of Jin is idiotic ! Heck, even fact that the Japanese TV stations stumping that low to produce such a drama to satisfy the fans is beyond me.

The must-watch drama this past season should be Galileo, packing mega-stars Fukuyama Masaharu and Shibasaki Kou, with huge guest actors such as Hirosue Kyoko, Katori Shingo, Horikita Maki and Kyoko Fukada. (I would definitely watch a drama any day, any time of the week, even 3am, if it has both Hirosue Kyoko and Maki Horikita.) It wasn’t as good as I expected, but still much better than Yukan Club.

    totally agree with the comment about Yukan Club. Even though I’m a Jin fan.. it was a pain to even watch the first 6 episodes… and after that, I didn’t even try. I wouldn’t say Galileo is the best drama of the season.. but it’s SOOO much better than Yukan Club.

    hey I was one of the ‘idiotic fans’ that voted for Akanishi but whatever, I like him lol. My jaw dropped seeing the result as well, like wtf Yuukan beated Galileo? I’d understand if it’s just Jin who got the award but the whole drama and other supporting casts as well? LOL. I bet only young people (many of them would be JE fangirls) have such free time to vote anyway so it doesn’t reflect the whole thing. But I learnt something - never underestimate fangirls power xDD

    Well it’s true that YC sucked in many ways, but I think it wasn’t so bad either… I found it at the end (since 8 ep) quite funny, and interesting. I voted for Akanishi, cause I’m his fan, but also because I saw how much did he improve since his last dorama - Anego. And I think that Minami’s and Yu Kashii’s play was really good. And saying that actors “aren’t even handsome/pretty (maybe except for Jin Akanishi in JE fans’ eyes)” is already exaggeration, and just your subjective opinion.

    :) yeah, i admit it is my subjective opinion, it’s my blog after all. however, i have to disagree with you on this. the drama is too shallow. whether jin’s acting is improved or not, that’s not the point. only the collective quality of acting/scripts/… at that moment is what matters, and YC does not have it. and maybe i’m talking from the perspective of a guy watching too many drama (and hence being a bit picky), but a true fan , a true movie/drama watchers should have the courage to say out loud: it’s a bad movie/drama, it’s bad acting … when he/she sees it. for example, i am an aya ueto fan, but i’m not afraid to say that most of her recent drama blew big time.
