Ping Pong (ピンポン; Pin pon) is a 2002 sports film directed by the Japanese filmmaker Fumihiko Sori. It is based on Taiyō Matsumoto’s manga of the same name, and is about the friendship between two high school table tennis players.

The film concentrates on these two friends, their two mentors, and three players who they encounter at high school table tennis tournaments. It explores the different motivations and philosophies that they have towards table tennis, and tries to portray the excitement and subtlety of the sport.

Ping Pong was nominated for eight Japanese Academy Awards in 2003; Shido Nakamura won the ‘Newcomer of the Year’ prize for his performance as Dragon.

The cast includes Yosuke Kubozuka (Peco), Arata (Smile), Sam Lee (China), Shido Nakamura (Dragon), Koji Ookura (Akuma), Naoto Takenaka (Butterfly Joe, the high school coach) and Mari Natsuki (Obaba, Peco’s mentor).

Vì sao một học sinh du học tại Mỹ phải bỏ về nước?

Dù chính sách của Việt là không copy lại bài từ cái bài báo của Việt Nam để post vì đó là một hành động dư thừa, trang web của báo Thanh Niên dạo này cứ khùng khùng lúc vào được lúc không buộc mình phải copy lên. Mọi người đọc thử rồi cho ý kiến nha.

Vào một ngày trung tuần tháng 8.2007, tôi nhận được e-mail cấp báo của một người mẹ từ TP.HCM. Trong thư, cô nhờ tôi bằng bất cứ giá nào hãy liên hệ ngay với một trường trung học ở Bắc California để “giải cứu” cho cô con gái vừa mới đặt chân đến nước Mỹ du học chỉ vài ngày trước đó. Lý do là cô con gái đòi tự tử nếu như không đưa cô ra ngay khỏi hoàn cảnh hiện tại.

Đang chuẩn bị lên đường để gặp và thuyết phục cô gái tiếp tục ở lại học (quãng đường từ Nam Cali lên đến tận Bắc Cali - nơi ngôi trường tọa lạc xa chừng 1.100km) thì tôi nhận tiếp cú điện thoại khẩn báo là cô bé đã “cắt đứt mọi liên lạc” (chat, e-mail, điện thoại…) với cả người nhà lẫn bạn bè thân thích ở TP.HCM với lời nhắn là “sẽ không còn thấy nhau”. Việc đầu tiên là tôi gọi ngay số điện thoại 911 (khẩn cấp) báo cho cảnh sát biết có một trường hợp như thế để nhờ can thiệp, ngăn chặn cháu có những hành động rồ dại, thiếu suy nghĩ. Tôi cũng yêu cầu mẹ cháu liên hệ với trung tâm tư vấn du học gửi ngay e-mail qua trường trung học ở Mỹ giới thiệu tôi là người bảo hộ (guardian) của cháu để có đủ thẩm quyền làm việc với nhà trường.
