Let’s face it. She was heavily favorited, and her appearance, apart from the plastic-surgery thingy, is better than Riyo Mori, Miss Japan. However, Riyo Mori ended up won. Why ? I’ve got a few explanations from people over several forums below, mainly focused on what happened during the last question/answer session.

Unqualified judges with bad questions. Dave Navarro and Deal/No Deal girl ? I gotta agree on this one.

The interpreter terribly messed up the translated version of her answer, making her sound like a gold digger instead of the humanitarian motives for having a fat but endless wallet. The question was: What will you do if you have superpower ? But then again, the Korean team chose their own translator after all. Get a better one next time.

The Japanese used its political power to alter the result. This is just bullshit. Like Donald Trump would care.

In a related news, the Japanese Nikkan Sport mistakenly used Miss Thailand’s photo instead of Miss Riyo Mori’s on its May 30th article about the Miss Universe Pageant. They apologized, and used the excuse that the two has similar hairstyle. I’m laughing my ass off right now.

People’s been saying that Riyo Mori’s image during the Pageant is a radical departure from the “cuteness” image so prevalent in Japanese youth nowadays. I agree on that note, as I do not consider her as pretty as Honey Lee (Lee Ha-nee), nor as the previous Miss Japan 2006 (and first runner up of Miss Universe 2006) Kurara Chibana (知花 くらら). However, the non-contest photo of Riyo Mori (森 理世) below does look a bit more ‘expected’.

    i apologize in advance if its’ a mistake. I haven’t meet her, obviously, but i’ve heard from multiple sources that she had plastic surgery AFTER she won the miss Korea crown.

    Lee didn’t have any plastic surgery, and this was shown in her child->teen pics.

    Cái nào cũng đúng hết đó, vì quan niệm sắc đẹp mỗi người rất khác nhau. Dù sao T vẫn thấy HH Nhật đẹp hơn, trả lời ứng xử cũng hay hơn.
